Lacey Rhodes (Van Der Marel) has been a lifelong athlete and leader in both health and fitness. A lifetime of competitive gymnastics and track and field gave Lacey direction as an athlete but when these sports came to an end she found herself without much knowledge in the area of nutrition, and no longer feeling or looking like an athlete.
Understanding first hand that feeling of self-doubt and lack of nutritional knowledge with is what inspires her to teach today.
Boyfriend and future husband Jay introduced her to CrossFit where she found a new love and much success. She played a pivotal role in their team qualifying for the 2011 CrossFit Games.
Through CrossFit she gained more nutritional knowledge and found herself competing in a handful of fitness/bikini shows in 2012, something she thought she could never do.
Aside from the gymnastics, one particular aspect of CrossFit that Lacey excelled in was Olympic Weightlifting; and upon return from the newlywed’s honeymoon in late 2014, she decided to go all in with weightlifting.
She describes this as her turning point with nutrition. The move to a weight class sport meant more of a focus on nutrition to optimize performance and sit comfortably in her new weight class of 58kg.
During this time, she sought out various nutrition coaches of her own, including Adee Cazayoux (Zukier) who was in the early stages of developing her business working against gravity.
It wasn’t long before her efforts drew the attention of members within her gym, CrossFit Outlaw North, where she began to imparting knowledge upon her first nutrition clients.
From there, what started as simply helping others around her lead to certifications, and transformed into a full-on nutrition coaching platform.
Helping others break down their own barriers with food was not only something she was instantly good at, but something she has been passionate about and driven to become better at ever since.
